Hong Ying is a sophomore at Yale-NUS College with an intended major in Global Affairs and a minor in Chinese Studies. Prior to attending Yale-NUS, Hong Ying attended a pre-tertiary specialized arts school in Singapore, where she was given many opportunities to use the arts as a platform to serve those within and outside of her community. These experiences fueled her passion in bringing positive impact to the less privileged and in eliminating social inequality.In hopes to promote China-ASEAN dialogue and reconnect with her roots, Hong Ying joined Yale-NUS GCC in 2019 as a freshman. While at Yale-NUS GCC, she spearheaded several school-wide cultural events such as Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese New Year, which helped to foster a deeper understanding of Chinese culture amongst the Yale-NUS community. She also helped coordinate professional events such as distinguished speaker events and skills-building workshops, which helped facilitate students in gaining professional development skills. Currently, she is serving as the chapter president of Yale-NUS GCC, in which hopes to expand GCC’s global presence and impact.In addition to GCC, Hong Ying works as a Chinese Language tutor at Yale-NUS college, in which she shares her language and culture to students from all over the world. During her free time, she enjoys dancing, literary writing, and getting to know people from different cultural backgrounds.
